| The Jordan Pond House can be reached by car from: Bar Harbor ~ 7 miles ~ take the Cadillac Mountain Entrance off Route 233, follow the signs for Cadillac Mountain, then for Jordan Pond. Northeast Harbor ~ 7 miles ~ take the Stanley Brook Entrance off Route 3 across from Seal Harbor Beach.
The Jordan Pond House can be reached by the Island Explorer Bus from either Bar Harbor or Northeast Harbor. Bus schedules vary by season, but generally run on the half hour. The seven mile ride takes about 15 or 20 minutes. Parking at Jordan Pond is often crowded. The bus brings you right to the front door. Many visitors to Jordan Pond arrive by bicycle on either the carraige road system or by the Park Loop Road.We recommend that you leave your car at a satelite location, cycle to Jordan Pond and refresh yourself for the ride back. The Island Explorer bus is available transportation for tired cyclists and their biycles. Check the carraige road user's map for possible routes at http://www.nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/images/crmap.jpg. Many possibilities exist in Acadia extensive trail system to plan a hike to Jordan Pond. Here are three:
Asticou and Jordan Pond Path ~ Park at Brown Mountain Gate House or take the Island Explorer. Take the carriage road to the Sargent South Ridge Trail and connect to the Asticou and Jordan Pond Path. Approximately 2 miles with many posssible variations.Canon Brook Trail ~ The trailhead is on Route 3 near the Tarn. Roadside parking is available as well as Island Explorer bus service. The trail connects to the Bubbles and Jordan Pond Path for a total trip of 4 miles. Bubbles Trail ~ Begin at Eagle Lake parking area. Take the carriage road along the west side of Eagle Lake to the Bubbles Trail trailhead. The Bubbles trail is strenuous and connects to the Jordan Pond Path for a total trip of approximately 4 miles. The trail and carriage road system is extensive. We recommend a good trail map to plan your hike or bicycle ride. Check availability at:http://www.acadiashops.com/index.html. |
